Scuttlebutt

When we lived in New York we went out to eat at this little place called Saltie. Just a small little restaurant of a thing. Marc ordered a Scuttlebutt and wanted to marry it. This place was on our list of places to go before we moved because everything we ate there was pretty much the best ever. Fast forward three years and there I was trying to whittle down the 300+ emails in my inbox and I found a recipe for a Scuttlebutt. The Scuttlebutt from Saltie. I think it was meant to be. Father's Day was just around the corner and I had just found the perfect thing to serve. To knock Marc's socks off. It was going to be such an amazing surprise I could hardly stand it.

So much for the surprise, though, since Marc figured it out the day or so before Father's Day when he saw the beets and carrots pickling in the refrigerator, and the focaccia bread, and the herbs, and the boiled eggs. (This sandwich is intense.) (And worth it.)

That's why there are three photos of it.

Plus its detritus.

FIFA 2013*

Four years ago Margo was just a new baby and the World Cup was happening in South Africa. It was only the beginning of Marc's obsession with FIFA, the video game, and soccer in general. Fast forward four years to Brazil; Margo is 4, Marc is head over heels for soccer, and we have watched some or all of too many games to count. And now Marc has hooked Harper and Margo on the video game, which they ask to play every day.

For the record, I also like watching soccer. Probably not as much as Marc. Watching Harper and Margo play video games is pretty great, too.
*My little group of gamers play an old version of the video game. But Marc just informed me it's time for an upgrade.

Photo Scavenger Hunt: Unfinished

Our town was advertising a photo scavenger hunt with cash prizes. Too bad I didn't get my photos entered in time to actually be eligible to win. We drive by several of the places on the list every day so we just hopped out along our route one day and snapped these.

The Mighty Red

Singing

The music stand was out and Margo got us all up and singing. Marc is always game for making a spectacle of himself. He belted out his old favorite, Wild Montana Skies by John Denver.

And the scarf goes flying.

Margo sang an original number that she made up on the spot which was very sweet to watch.

Last Day of School: 2014

I meant to take this picture at home but forgot. I snapped one when we got to school even though the sun was glaring in their eyes.

Margo's preschool teachers: Miss Becky, Miss Courtney, and Ms. Baker

After I picked up Margo she wanted to play hide 'n' seek which ended up turning into a little photo op.

Such a poser.

And such a dancer.

Messy Art Day

Margo got to dress up in one of my old shirts and make a mess at school with paint and shaving cream. When I picked her up her legs were covered with paint and her splatter painting looked awesome.

Shenanigans with Teddy, and a Picture of Elsa and Ana

My favorite part of this picture is the leg sticking out of the dress. It definitely makes the picture more authentic.

Soccer

Margo played soccer for the first time this year. She liked the idea of being a soccer player but it didn't translate to actually playing soccer. She could usually be found picking grass or playing imaginary games during the match.

Harper is getting the hang of things and it turns out she is competitive. She likes all things soccer and proudly calls herself a soccer player.

Action shot.

Reading

Harper came home from school one day, took off her shoes, plopped herself down in the mud room and started reading. She came up for air when her stomach started growling. She was reading The House of a Million Pets with love from and many thanks to Jessie Dear.

Over A Month Ago: Donuts for Dad

Margo's preschool hosted a Donuts for Dads event in April or May. Margo is either too young to notice that she was the only one without her dad at the event, or she isn't phased by this fact. I choose to think it's number two. Thankfully the school, instead of singling out one parent for these events, called the next event something like Muffins for Anyone in Your Family That Can Come for an Hour During the Middle of the Day and it was much better.

And we joined Marc for donuts at his school. Sadly Harper was not there this time. Gladly we weren't driving around in a blizzard this year, though.

Even though Harper wasn't there in person she was there in spirit. Or in dry erase marker.

With green "lip gloss."

Over A Month Ago: General Conference Preamble

Marc gave an FHE lesson and we all had to pick an apostle and write a favorite story or lesson we had heard from him. See if you can guess who we chose, Dear Reader.
