Margo at one month

Grandma Comes to Visit

A day and a half after Carol left my mom showed up. She stayed with us for two weeks or so. And for another two weeks or so I didn't do the dishes. I have forgotten how.

Eating on the patio when it was just slightly too cold to be eating on the patio.

We all took our shoes and socks off to go outside and enjoy a low-calorie ice cream treat on one of the glorious days this week. And since then Harper starts taking her socks off every time we pull one out of the freezer.

Recently I was lucky enough to find a gigantic piece of this striped fabric at the thrift store. I told myself it would make a great duvet cover, several cool shirts, and a pair of pajamas for Harper. I don't even really know how to sew. And for $3 I would have been stupid not to buy it. While my mom was here she tutored me at the sewing machine. And while she was tutoring she made these pajamas for Harper.

I always used to tell people that my mom loved to play with Lincoln Logs (it is surprising how often that will come up in a conversation) but the truth is she always wanted a set of these logs to play with but her family was too poor to buy toys so she had to settle for playing with her cousin's. While she was here I think she found as much enjoyment from playing with this incomplete set as Harper did/does.

Harper really just likes to collect all the bright red logs and carry them around with her. Here she is showing them to Margo.

Finishing a project that I was too frustrated to do.

After a last-minute trip to the yogurt shop we spotted this piece of trash/art across the street. I seriously contemplated heaving this dirty heavy shelf into the car since it might have been the only way we could ever afford to have a de la Vega original. Our impending move and the threat of bed bugs told me it was not the best time to be collecting large dirty objects. Or Marc told me that when I called him to tell him what I had found.

After two weeks of visiting it was hard to believe that there wasn't a picture of Grandma with Margo. Sadly I don't think we snapped one with Granny either. It turns out that babies aren't that photogenic. And they spend most of their time asleep. So in the few hours we had left with Grandma we had a short photo shoot.

Some pictures I forgot to post:

Two days after Margo was born. I wondered why Marc started this project at bed time. He said Harper had been running around all evening talking about pink and purple and princesses and he had had just about all he could take of such talk. He decided Harper needed to wield hammers and nails and hit things so he started putting together this dresser.

Before our old friend Dynette moved to Florida, she stopped by to wish us well and meet Margo.

A beautiful day to wear the beautiful jacket

A Red River Cereal Bread Tutorial

After the bread dough has been left to rise for a long time punch all the air out of it. Then bake it.

Punch it.

Punch it some more.

Granny Comes to Visit

It was nice to have Carol's helping hands for a week or so. I don't think I washed the dishes once. I am thinking of having another baby soon. It was also nice to have someone to talk to during the day besides a baby and a 2-year-old. Harper also appreciated having a playmate; I heard her tell Marc that I am always feeding Margo.

Sisters

Carol knitted a yellow family of Easter chicks for us. How nice. And she taught me how to do the same thing.

Harper jumps at the chance to wear her "beautiful jacket."

On a Sunny Day

Marc's mom came to help with the new baby. She brought some sunshine with her. So we all enjoyed playing at the park.

A bath

I don't like to give baths. Since Margo's birth a week or so ago she has been bathed once by the nurse at the hospital and once by Marc and Harper. I use wipes to keep her face and bottom clean.
