10 Years

On the morning of our tenth anniversary Harper and Margo joined us in bed. And brought pictures of themselves to hang above the bed. They had no idea how perfect this was.

Everything's Cuter Smaller: Cheerio Donuts

We made a box of these for a little friend's birthday. They were delicious. And very fun to make. And eat.

Curly Hair

We don't have a curling iron but I do kind of know how to twist some hair up at night to make a curl by morning. Harper was enjoying having curly hair one week. She wanted me to take a picture of her with curly hair. Margo wanted to be in the picture as well.

Harper didn't like that one bit. And that is how I got this awesome picture. It is my new favorite. Margo stealing the show. Harper two-thirds pouting, one-third smiling.

100% smiling all by herself.

At the House on Sunday

A Princess Tea Party

Harper made a crown for Marc since the invitation to the tea party did call for princes to wear their favorite costume as well as the princesses. Funny thing, there were no princes in attendance.

Margo has no fewer than three princess dresses of her own. She decided at the last minute that she would wear none of them. I think her outfit ruled. And so did this facial expression. The librarian was reading something about someone's bottom at this point in the story. And every time thereafter Margo made this funny face at its mention.

The grand parade. At which point all the princesses lined up and filed out of the tea room, through the circulation desk area, and into the children's area and back again with the parents all following awkwardly behind. I felt silly.

Our friend, Kaiya, joined in the fun with us.

The Wooden House

Margo has taken to calling our house "my wooden house."  She and I go there a lot together after we drop Harper off at school. They both love to play there and find treasure. They use their treasures to make little houses and bird nests.

More of the Rourke

I was at the Northport library recently and was admiring some prints on the wall by the artist James O'Rourke. I wrote his name down on a scrap piece of paper intending to find out more about him and where I could get one of his prints. While I was trying to find something interesting we could do one day, I noticed an interesting art exhibit advertised at The Rourke Art Museum. I had been intending to visit this museum since we moved here. So we finally visited. And then I discovered that the James O'Rourke who created the prints I was admiring at the library was also the same person that opened this museum.

Apparently James O'Rourke had a cool old house filled with all kinds of cool old art. I guess when he died recently they turned his house into a gallery. We visited another exhibit there and got our Art Appreciation badges at the end of the day.

I thought this looked like a Canadian flag.

Donuts for Dads

Harper's pre-school had an event for the dads. Marc couldn't go and Harper was very sad. She cried almost every time we talked about it. She didn't want to be the only one without her dad there. (Marc was sad, too, for the record.) (And so was I.) But we got through it by planning our own Donuts for Dads event at Marc's school on his lunch break.

Margo and I ran around trying to find some good donuts while Harper was at school. I decided that we need a good donut shop here. Too bad I am not more entrepreneurial.

Duck Embryos

We had a New Foods Night for the Young Men and Young Women at church.  Someone brought balut which are duck embryos. Some kids ate them. I watched one boy put the whole thing into his mouth and then struggle to keep it down. He did. I brought a couple home for Harper and Margo to see. Harper took one to school with her to crack open with her class. Sadly there wasn't an embryo inside. We broke the other one open at home and discovered a tiny little duck with a beak and wings.

I like to try new foods but could not bring myself to try this one.  I tried a little piece of the 1000-year-old eggs. And that was more than enough.
