How To from Harper

A lot of people around here like to fold their pizza in half the long way to eat it. Harper likes to roll hers up into a tube starting with the crust and moving down.

Playoffs

It was difficult to watch the Lakers beat the Suns without cable television. Marc used a variety of different sources to get an idea of what was happening on the court for the first five games. Imagine Marc's delight when our out-of-town neighbors offered to let us come over and watch their cable TV for game 6 in the series. The Lakers won. Which means they advance to the finals. For the second year in a row. Which means we will be watching a lot of basketball around here for awhile. For the seventh year in a row.

Margo thought Kobe played a sick game too.

Hand Washables

Whenever our apartment is unusually quiet I head straight to the bathroom and can usually find Harper doing something she's not supposed to be doing. It all starts out so innocently. Like today, for example, she thought she would wash her feet off in the sink. But then I'm sure she thought it would be fun to hand wash her underwear and skirt and the hand towel and that old toothbrush we've had since she first had teeth to brush. And then there was water everywhere.

Margo at three months

Margo is three months old today. She is a pretty sweet kid. She hates tummy time, loves bath time, cries for extended periods of time, smells pretty bad most of the time, sleeps at night and usually during the day, doesn't have baby acne (Harper sure did), speaks when she's spoken to, sings when she's sung to, and is generally a joy to have around.

A Happy Birthday to Marc Who Is Now 31

It's easy to think of 31 things to love about Marc. Or is it? I decided to give it a try:
The easy/obvious ones first:
He's funny
He's smart
He's handsome
He's really strong

The other reasons:
He wants to wash the dishes every night
He likes and is very good at cooking
He doesn't complain
He's patient with Harper and Margo
He's a good reader and writer and arithmetic-er
He's a teacher
He never gets us in car accidents
He tries to move the car to the right side of the street for alternate-side parking so I don't have to
He tries to make the road easier to drive on for everyone after a snowfall by driving on top of the snow instead of in the ruts
He thinks he can do it all
He plans the best vacations
He makes chocolate sauce
He's good at finding good deals
He's bossy and I don't usually notice
He likes basketball so much and uses words like "sick" and "dirty" to describe good basketball moves
He has a signature basketball move
He comes home early so I can take a break sometimes
He makes cookies for his class every week
He has a tie collection
He doesn't have any cavities
He has a low resting heart rate
He likes to sing and can sing in parts
He's honest
He has a nice smile
He has good ideas
He makes cheese stollen every Christmas
He makes New Year's resolutions and tries to stick to them all year

Sisters

Harper really loves to hug and kiss her new baby sister, and she always makes sure that there is one of everything for Mom, Dad, Harper and now Baby Margo (even though Margo can't eat food, doesn't care about Harper's drawings, and won't know she's missing out on anything). But when Margo is crying so loudly that Harper can't hear her TV show, Harper will scream more loudly for Margo to stop. Or when she is playing with Margo's little feet or gently rubbing her head sometimes her curiosity gets the better of her and and she'll squeeze and poke and hurt until Margo lets out a noise that will pretty nearly break hearts.

Margo already responds well and happily to Harper; she smiles when Harper's around or in her face, and can be calmed by hearing Harper reading a story to her. It's so nice to watch.

Pretty Great

It has been pretty great having Margo around for the last two and a half months. She might cry a little more than Harper did but that's mostly because I am not sitting around waiting to give her attention like I did when there was only one baby. Although I do like to sit around and give Margo attention. Especially now that she is so good at smiling.

Now that spring has arrived we are enjoying spending mornings and/or afternoons and/or evenings in the park across the street. Harper got a new jar of bubbles and a new pair of sunglasses to celebrate the new season.

We're still together, still going strong

In the morning I found one of these sevens hanging on the wall and a blank one on the table. Marc had recorded on it important people and events from the last seven years, the only seven years of our marriage. It took Marc asking me (a few days later) when I was going to fill mine in before I understood what the blank seven was for. I thought it was just a nice table decoration.
