Margo at four months

At four months Margo is still easily the most wonderful new baby we have. And Harper is still easily the most wonderful toddler we have. No favorites here.
Margo scoots around as much as a person that can't crawl can. She uses her feet to push herself around while lying on her back. She is in position to roll over any day now. Recently she got the hang of speaking into the microphone and Harper couldn't be happier to be closer to actually having a playmate for a sister. She loves to be kissed by someone who knows how. She's good at sleeping almost all night long. And she has started giggling.

NY: 12

Recently the city finished fixing up this little park where these paintings reside. They called the park Crack Is Wack Playground.

Mini is for Miniskirt

I ran in the NYRR New York Mini 10K yesterday. It's actually the world's original women-only road race. And it was actually named for the miniskirt which was wildly popular when the race was first organized. Who knew. I wasn't even sure I was going to go through with it but then I watched the video on the NYRR website and felt pretty motivated and inspired to do it. I'm so glad I did. And I'm so glad I had running mates (for the first 100 yards or so).

PBJ ABCs

I don't usually like peanut butter and jam sandwiches. Especially not the next day. But that's what we had after I grossly over-estimated how many Harper and I would eat on a picnic. I felt too guilty to throw away perfectly good sandwiches but didn't feel like tossing them into the refrigerator either where I knew they would just get moldy and then need to be thrown out anyway. So we did what everyone in this situation would do: cut them up into bite-size letters. Old bread is much easier to choke down when it looks like an S or an H.

Camping in Lancaster County

We had a nice time camping in the woods of Pennsylvania on the weekend with old friends. Too bad we won't be able to do this again for a really long time.

marshmallows for breakfast

Isn't it so like boys to climb on top of cars to stomp their feet and girls to sit quietly inside eating more marshmallows?

These cows were easily a highlight of the trip. And so was the ice cream we devoured made from their milk and served by Amish girls. I thought Harper was telling a story when she said one of the cows licked her face. But then I noticed how long their tongues are and that her hair was wet and I breathed a sigh of relief that my daughter is not that kid that tells far out stories for attention.

Marc confirmed that the corn is on track to be knee-high by the fourth of July as only an Indianan could do.

I think of Easter baskets when I see this picture of Margo in her car seat.

Visiting the Met

We joined Ashley and Minde and kids for a trip to the Met on the hottest day of the year. I didn't mind the heat if I could walk directly in the hot sun to work on my farmer tan.

Walking through that bamboo forest everyone is talking about.

Margo crying through that bamboo forest everyone is talking about.

Cheese from Harper Chase & Eliot

Obviously I need to do a better job of washing the lettuce.

Needless to say we didn't finish eating our salad.

But we treated ourselves to dessert anyway. We deserved it.

Summer in the City

Of course it would be way better to be able to go jump in a lake to cool off these days but we are surviving thanks to the parks' sprinklers. I am considering taking along my "babysuit" this summer so I can cool off as well.

Prospect Park Zoo with Carinis

We joined our Carini friends for a day at the zoo in Brooklyn. School groups zoomed through the two animal houses and then Harper and Isabella had the place to themselves. Which they loved. Obviously.

Still happy

Somehow Margo managed to keep her cool on this hot day. Which meant I did, too.
