Celebrating A Birthday

Margo started the day off by putting on her best outfit and going out for a donut with me.

We picked Harper up and went to Spicy Pie. Both girls always ask for gumballs when we go there. And I always say no. But I was feeling generous on Margo's birthday. She took advantage of my generosity and didn't wait to sink her teeth into the little blue nasty.

Harper is one of 2 people in our family that can show restraint when something sweet and/or delicious is offered. I am trying to be more like her.

Margo asked for a Kiki's Delivery Service cake but then changed her mind at the last minute and asked for a Sleeping Beauty cake. Harper had strong opinions about how this cake should look. It turns out so did I. We put our energy into a proper competition and let Margo choose the best design. Harper won. (See the winning design above.)

I am now the only person in our family without the right soccer gear.

Margo is hilarious. She insists on being a baby everyday: baby lion, baby robot, baby dog, baby dragon, baby baby. Her volume is loud. Her favorite books are: Three Bears, No David!, any Piggie and Elephant books. She's a good sister. And the best baby girl in our family.

Building Blocks

Margo's Crown and Jewels

Harper made a crown for Margo's birthday.

Margo and I played Rings On Your Fingers while Harper was at pre-school. I used to love playing this game when I was a kid.

Trained

Harper decorated the little potty seat to motivate Margo to use it. Lucky for us she hardly used it. Not because she wanted to wear diapers for another year but because she wanted to use a bona fide toilet instead. Bless her.

Yes. This is another photo of the funny looking pot.

Leftover Valentine Photos

We intended to get gum balls or some kind of candy that looks like a pearl for our valentines this year. It turns out it's harder to go to the store when you have to drive there. We managed to scrounge up enough pom poms at home. I liked them better.

Funny Funny Margo Margo

If Margo thinks someone did or said something funny she will say "funny funny" followed by the repetition of the person's name.

Such A Catchy Tune

I don't remember now what made me introduce H+M to Julie Andrews singing "I Could Have Danced All Night" but I did. And then for two days we couldn't stop singing. Marc loved that. Here is a picture of Harper mid-song.

And Margo.

Vices

I already knew Harper was stronger than I was at the same age. And here she proved it again by quitting her nail-biting habit. Amazing. I think I was a college student before I quit.

I used to say I'd never met a donut I didn't like.

We were at Target and the donuts looked so delicious. And they were on sale. I couldn't resist. But they tasted so bad. I threw the rest away when H+M weren't looking because if something so bad for us doesn't taste good it's not worth eating.

Doing it again.

Presents for Dinner

I am a fan of Jenny Rosenstrach and her blog/cookbook Dinner: A Love Story. While flipping through the book I found (and then I made) this recipe. This dinner will go down in history as the best one ever. Or should I say Best. One. Ever. When I told Harper and Margo we were having presents for dinner they made a beeline to the ribbon box and we wrapped up our water as well.

Snow Cream

We collected some new fallen snow and made snow cream. It was delicious.
