Goodbye Morgan from Harper

Before the Adams moved to Ohio, we stopped by Central Park for one last run-around.

A Play Day at PS 72

Harper invaded a local school's playground on a nice day in February. She found a lucky penny.

I couldn't get Harper to cooperate for this photo shoot. For some reason she just wanted to run around and play in this wide open space.

Oregon Wilsons Visit NYC

Five Oregon Wilsons swarmed our two bedroom apartment a couple weeks ago and took over the living room, the hallway, and Harper's room. Owing to the size 13 and 15 shoes in the house, the front door shoe pile has never been so large. Despite a rocky start, wherein only two of the five guests arrived on the expected day (but hours after the expected time), the Oregon Wilsons charged through their itinerary without missing nary a sight. And one of these Wilsons is 7 months pregnant! We were pleased to be able to have their company for a week, and for the chance to see some sights and eat some good food.

We sat with Nicholas Cage at Serendipity. He offered to hold Harper on his knee so I could drink my Frrrozen Hot Chocolate. Stars are just like us.

Forget Jackson Pollack--Harper and Kellen couldn't get over how cool the rope was.

Harper on a Desert Island

If Harper were stranded on a desert island, I think she would wish for her toothbrushes and cell phone. Absolutely not because she loves brushing her teeth, or keeping in touch with friends and family (she hates both). But because with these things she could keep herself happily entertained for hours, and forget about a lack of fresh water and clean diapers.

When Harper realizes she is stuck on a desert island, she will wish she had one of these plastic pacifiers, too. Or as they are known in Harper's world: wawa.

She calls the camera "Cheese"

Harper thinks this is a smile. She likes to have her picture taken. Good thing since I like to take her picture. In the month of February I took almost 1000 pictures. Harper's word for camera is Cheese.

March Sadness

Marc called yesterday afternoon to remind me that his basketball team (Action) had a game that they might actually win, so we should come. Harper and I sat on the edge of our seats for 32 minutes as each team's score climbed at a steady pace. Action tied the game with five seconds remaining sending the game into a 3 minute overtime. They took and kept the lead by one point. Then, in the final seconds, the fans watched in agony as the opposing team tossed the ball again and again to the basket, thankfully with no success. With one second remaining Action had the ball but lost it. The other team scored. At the buzzer. Hearts were broken. Heads were hung. Shoes were thrown.

Coach Wilson tries to give us a smile. Harper runs around completely oblivious to all the pain and sorrow.

Visiting

Granny and Grandpa Thompson stopped for a visit over the weekend. We couldn't have had nicer weather (or we couldn't have had nicer weather in March). Thanks, Doyle, for pulling some strings. Marc made them get up at the crack of dawn on Friday to go to school with him and talk to his first class about Afghanistan. Harper and I joined up with them after class for a trip to the Natural History Museum. And everyone took a nap in the afternoon. We all spent the early evening in the park, and afterward Carol and I walked all the way to the top of the rotunda at the Guggenheim for free.

Kind strangers like offering to take our picture at this spot in the park.

Harper found some real treasure from trees.

Brooklyn Bridging it on Saturday.

Oh, but we were close to capturing two plate lickers in action! (Marc's sauteed apples are good to the last cinnamony drop.)

Mom and Doyle won. They licked their plates clean, and no photographic evidence exists to support this claim.

There is also no photographic evidence to show that we enjoyed a night out on the town: dinner (to die for) at Itzocan Bistro, and a show (no one needs to die to see)--"Love/Stories (or, But You Will Get Used To It)".

walking through nyc on a snow day

Last Monday morning Marc hopped back into bed and announced he wouldn't be going to school. It was a snow day. He was so excited he couldn't fall asleep again. I was excited, too, but didn't have any problems going back to sleep. Marc used his early morning energy to watch more basketball highlights on espn.com, and treat us to one of his specialties: breakfast.

Getting dressed to go outside and play in snow.

Harper loves to try on hats. Here she is admiring herself in one we found at her great-grandmother Clark's house.
